How do we know we are alive? Because we can hear, see, touch, taste and smell everything around us. Our senses keep us grounded. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to lose all of your senses? You might have imagined what it is like to be blind or deaf, or blind and deaf. But what would happen if you were blind, deaf, had no taste and smell, and lost your sense of touch...
Eckhart Tolle refers to our senses as the 'doorway back into Being'. "As you let go of the busyness of life and cultivate your senses, you awaken again to the pure joy that is contained within each present moment". Stress, anxiety, depression, negativity and worries instantly disappear when we connect to our five senses.
Try it now - notice one thing you can see, hear, smell, touch and taste. How'd you go? Did all your fears and problems disappear for a few moments or even a second? It's simple but may take repeated practice. Eventually the seconds here and there add together and you find peace of mind for an hour or parts of your day. You stop feeling like you've lost touch with life or those around you. And you realise you don't need to work hard thinking to solve your problems no matter how big or small they seem. The answer is in the present moment.
